School Awards and Honors

  • Recognized as a Magnet School Program of Excellence for 2007, 2006, 2004 and 2002 by Magnet Schools of America
  • Recipient of multiple grants from the North Carolina Arts Council, including local artist residencies and having the Pilobolus Dance Company work with students during a multi-week residency over three years 
  • Thirteen teachers who are nationally board certified; two counselors who are North Carolina certified 
  • North Carolina Association of the Gifted and Talented Teacher of the Year 2011, Diana Lisle
  • Durham Public Schools Math Teacher of the Year 2007, Cynthia Schwane 
  • Collaboration with the Duke Center for Documentary Studies on the "Literacy through Photography" program 
  • Special events and ongoing student interactions with artists-in-residence from the Durham community 
  • Recipient of multiple artist and cultural residencies through the East Asian and Pacific Studies Department at Duke University 
  • Named a School of Distinction for 2002-2003 and for 2001-2002 by the Public Schools of North Carolina
