At Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet School, we integrate authentic literature and the arts into North Carolina's Standard Course of Study for each grade level. Our resource teachers help us to realize our humanities theme by relating art, dance, music, physical education, Spanish, and technology lessons to topics in the regular classroom. The media center serves as an extension of the classroom for reading and research. In addition, we offer students a changing set of electives, and our PTA sponsors a variety of after-school classes each fall and spring. Pablo Picasso has said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he or she grows up." Art classes at Club Boulevard are designed to nurture the children's natural love of art while teaching them the artistic skills and techniques that allow continued enjoyment of art as they mature. Authentic art, mathematics, science and literature are used as the basis for all projects.

The Dance program at Club Boulevard
Humanities Magnet is a multi-faceted one that combines classical
movement technique with creative expression. Using the North Carolina
Standard Course of Study, students work on technique to build movement
vocabulary and kinesthetic awareness, and use these to enhance their
creative work. Student work helps to foster cooperation and respect for
others.
Dance classes help Club Boulevard children to build an artistic awareness of movement and appreciation for all dance forms. |

Welcome to the Club Boulevard Media Center!
Media Center Catalog Click here to access our NEW online catalog!
We LOVE reading at Club Blvd. Humanities Magnet! Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Media Center to see our reading and thinking in action. A few of our favorite authors include Dave Pilkey, Kevin Henkes, Jacquelin Woodson, and Doreen Cronin.
The Media Center operates on a combination flexible/fixed schedule. Students in grades K, 1, and 2 visit the Media Center as part of their specials rotation. Lessons are designed to foster a love of reading and students are exposed to a wide variety of authors and stories. Books selected for read aloud often correlate directly to what the students are learning in class. Special units of study also include author studies, the North Carolina Children's Book Award, and multicultural literature. The Media Center operates on a flexible schedule for grades 3, 4, and 5. Miss Stitsinger collaborates with these classroom teachers to incorporate research skills into the units already being taught in the classroom. Upper grades students may also visit the Media Center to check out books or use the computers on an as-needed basis. Open circulation for all students occurs each day from 8:45-9:00am.
If you have questions about our Media Center or your child's library books, please contact Miss Stitsinger:

 Music Classes at Club
Plato said, "Music . . . gives a soul
to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life
to everything." Music classes at Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet are a
place where students can learn elements of music through active
participation in singing and speaking, playing instruments, and moving.
Authentic poetry, images in art,
stories, songs and games are included in many lessons. Students also
express their ideas in creating speech pieces, rhythms to read, and
movement to explore. There are numerous opportunities for students to
share their talents in performances during the school year.

The main goal of the Physical
Education program at Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet is to improve the
students' overall fitness level while introducing them to a wide range
of activities.
Movement and stretching exercises are
part of every lesson. We also work on skills through drills geared to
give students a lot of opportunity for repetition and as much "hands
on" time as possible. Team and lifetime sports are included, as well as
new high energy activities.

At Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet we
help the children learn Spanish just the way they learned their first
words as babies: by hearing certain words over and over in everyday
contexts, by associating them with gestures and pictures, and by
getting plenty of smiles and encouragement when they start talking! At
all grade levels we use lots of songs, games, dances, and stories
carefully chosen from Latin American art and culture. |
