Club Blvd School-wide Goals Update
Earlier in the year, at Curriculum night, Principal James presented a slideshow outlining the plans she and the Club Blvd staff developed for this school year. At the December 8th PTA meeting, Principal James presented an update on those plans - where we are now, how things are going, what is going to happen next. The presentation below does not capture everything that was spoken in the presentation, but Principal James invites you to call or email her if you have any questions or need more information.
The Spelling Bee is Coming!
Club Blvd BEE DAY is December 15. All classroom spelling bees will be held that day. Students are encouraged to wear yellow and black to celebrate!
Fall Book Fair! (volunteers needed)
It's Fall Book Fair time! The book fair runs from December 5 through December 8. Please come out for our evening book fair or feel free to shop first thing in the morning or after school. This is a great fund raiser for our school and a book can be the perfect gift for the upcoming holiday season. This year you can also shop on-line if you cannot make it into the fair. The PTA is also still in need of help for many shifts of the fair. Let's make this fair our best one yet!
Magnet Program and Student Assignment Proposal
With the opening of the new Lucas Middle School in 2012-13, members of the Board of Education are taking a comprehensive look at magnet programs and student assignment. The Board of Education would like your input. Please plan to attend one of the following:
Science Day
Science Day is an annual event at Club Blvd and has become a favorite and exciting tradition! It is an opportunity for students to interact with parents and volunteers from the community who engage in the work of real science. During this event, students in grades K-5 travel from room to room to hear presentations on a variety of science related topics. A few of the topics this year included: states of matter, botany, mechanics, and habitats in the wild. Thanks to Mr. Krieger for organizing this engaging learning event for our school. View the slideshow below to see some of our young scientists in action on Science Day!
Hispanic Heritage Month
As part of our humanities curriculum, during Hispanic Heritage Month students at Club learn about the art, history, literature, people, and culture of Hispanic countries. In addition to classroom studies, individual students chose a Hispanic art form to research and created a piece of art in that form. Last Thursday night, Club teachers hosted their annual Hispanic Heritage Night. This night served as a culmination of our studies and gave our Club community the opportunity to come together and eat authentic food prepared by Club families and local restaurants. In addition to the dinner, families enjoyed looking at displays of art, writing, and research that lined the hallways. To get a glimpse of this wonderful event, please enjoy the slideshow below prepared by 1st grade teacher, Ms. Foote.
Cans for Club Needs Volunteers
Cans for Club is a weekend backpack/emergency food program benefiting several identified Club Boulevard Elementary School students in need. Backpacks of food are sent home two Fridays a month to bridge the weekend hunger gap so children can come to school Monday ready to learn. Volunteers are needed to help pack backpacks twice a month at 8:30am on the gym stage. Click below for more information on how you can help.
Walk to School Day, October 5
Wednesday October 5, 2011 is International Walk to School Day. Club Boulevard Elementary students will join millions of other children around the world in walking and biking to school. If you are a car driver, please drop off your child at the car parking lot in Northgate Park and walk with them to school. If you cannot walk with them, we will have chaperones guiding all of the children to school. Buses will drop off students at Northgate Park and parent volunteers will escort the students to school. There will be healthy snacks and drinks for everyone. Join in the fun. (Click "Read More" for a link to a flyer with information and maps.)
Club Blvd Smart Goals and DPS Strategic Plan
Our first PTA meeting was held September 15, immediately following Curriculum Night with the teachers. Principal James reviewed the DPS Strategic Plan and presented the Club Boulevard School-wide SMART Goals. She also shared the results of the staff, parent, and student surveys. Click below to see the full presentation.
Curriculum Night 9/15
The purpose of Curriculum Night is to provide parents with information regarding the DPS Strategic Plan, our three school-wide goals, and specific details about your child’s learning goals and objectives for the school year. Teachers will also share information about their particular classroom procedures. Curriculum Night is next Thursday, September 15, and it will include classroom visits and our first PTA meeting. There will be two sessions for visiting classrooms-Session 1 will be from 5:15-5:45 and Session 2 will be from 5:55-6:25. Hopefully this schedule will accommodate parents with more than one classroom to visit, and parents who are unable to arrive earlier than 5:55. There is also a few minutes built in for transitions. The classroom sessions will be led by our wonderful teachers and staff, followed by our very first PTA meeting in the gym. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend. At the PTA meeting, our fabulous PTA President Jill Simpson and Principal Teresa James will be sharing more about the DPS Strategic Plan, our school-wide goals, and the feedback received from the staff, student, and parent surveys. Please call the office if you have any questions.

Popsicles with Our Principal
Please join the PTA to welcome our new principal, Mrs. Teresa James! We will be gathering in front of the school on Tuesday, Aug. 16th between 4-6pm to eat popsicles and welcome Mrs. James into our Club family! We hope that you can join us!
Manatee Peace Garden
The Manatee Peace Garden made its appearance on campus at the end of the 2010-2011 school year bringing beauty and creativity to the school playground yard. However, this labor of love took many hours over nearly six months of designing, tracing, cutting, sanding, and painting. Conceived by Club parents Bridget Bishop and Betsy Dessauer, and funded by the PTA Garden Club, the execution was completed by volunteers and students under the guidance and diligence of Club parent Lizzie Glick and long-time faculty Cynthia Schwane.
