Parents
The staff at Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet welcomes your questions about school policies and programs and invites you to call during regular office hours (8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.). At others times, you may find the information you need here on the web site. Please click on the links below to learn more about parent resources and opportunities for involvement, or to find the forms most commonly needed by parents.
Forms
Links to Durham Public Schools forms including Volunteer Forms, Free and Reduced Lunch, and Request for Absence.
Helping at School
Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet welcomes parents, grandparents, and other family members into the classroom and to all school events. There are plenty of opportunities to share your talents with students, ranging from an ongoing commitment (such as lending a hand once a week in your child's classroom) to occasional assistance (such as serving as a chaperone for a class field trip.)
Teacher Blogs and Class Pages
Blogs and websites maintained by teachers for communication with parents and students.
PTA
The Parent / Teacher Association (PTA) at Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet is extremely active and strives to provide the "extras" that help to make our school a rewarding place for teachers and students. Any parent or guardian is welcome to join the PTA and participate in our meetings and all of our events. We have small meetings the first Monday of every month at 6PM in the media center. All are welcome to attend! We also have larger general membership meetings three times a year.
Cans for Club
A weekend backpack/emergency food program was started in the fall of 2009 for several identified Club Boulevard Elementary School students in need. Backpacks of food are sent home two Fridays a month to bridge the weekend hunger gap so children can come to school Monday ready to learn.
Extended Day
The Extended Day program at Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet is designed to provide our students with fun, enriching activities that are reasonably priced, accessible, and convenient; that highlight and develop the talents of Club Boulevard kids and adults; and that strengthen the connections within the Club Boulevard community.
Garden Club
The Garden Club provides an extracurricular, hands-on opportunity to beautify our campus and to build environmental awareness. We sponsor fun garden work-and-play days for both students and parents.
Working Concession Stands
Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet cooperates with several other magnet schools to work a food and drink stand at all Durham Bulls baseball games and Duke football and basketball games. In exchange for providing volunteers, the group of schools receives 9-11% of the money collected at the stand for each game. This is then split between the schools, and Club's share goes into the PTA budget.
School Improvement Team
The School Improvement Team at Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet is charged with making and reviewing decisions at the school level for compliance with the missions, goals, and plan for the school. Any parent or teacher is welcome to attend the meetings and to present issues for consideration by the SIT.
