How to Bring Parent Concerns to the SIT
Clarification of the process for bringing parent concerns to and addressing concerns on the SIT.
Background: Before this school year, our school team was a Site-Based Decision-Making Team (SBDMT). This year, we have shifted to a School Improvement Team (SIT). The main difference is that SIT has a more specific focus than SBDMT, on creating and implementing the School Improvement Plan.
Because of this change, we would like to clarify the process for bringing parent concerns to and addressing concerns on the SIT. We have outlined the following steps to help make the process clearer. Please note that you are always welcome to address any concern with Mrs. James separately from the SIT, if you prefer or it seems more appropriate.
Steps:
- You may notify the SIT of a concern that you wish to discuss by contacting any parent representative (Lindsay Vail, Kelly Gordon, Michelle Gaylord), Mrs. James, or Amanda Childress (Chair), in person or by e-mail. E-mail addresses can be found on the main School Improvement Team page.
- The concern will be shared with Mrs. James and Mrs. Childress, who will determine whether to address the concern directly with you or to put it on the SIT agenda for the following meeting. You will be notified which option is selected.
- If a concern is placed on the SIT agenda, you (and other parents who share the concern) are invited to the meeting to discuss the concern. Each concern will be allotted 5 minutes of discussion time at the beginning or end of the agenda. At that point, a concern may be resolved, referred to the SIT or a specific individual for further action, or postponed pending further information.
