Working Concession Stands

Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet cooperates with several other magnet schools to work a food and drink stand at all Durham Bulls baseball games and Duke football and basketball games. In exchange for providing volunteers, the group of schools receives 9-11% of the money collected at the stand for each game. This is then split between the schools, and Club's share goes into the PTA budget.

For each game, Club needs to provide between 2 and 11 volunteers, depending on the day of the week, type of game, and how many other schools are participating. No prior experience is necessary, but since the stands are busy and our group is obligated to fully staff them, we need volunteers who can make a firm commitment and honor that commitment. Here are the details.

Who can volunteer:
Anyone age 14 and older can work, so even older siblings or friends of our Club students can be involved! However, children under age 14 are not allowed to be in the concession stand.

Time commitment:
About 4-5 hours/game

Parking:
For all games, there is free parking around the stadiums within 5-10 minutes walking distance.

Durham Bulls baseball reward:
Volunteers at Durham Bulls games are entitled to receive at least one pair of reduced price tickets for the game they work.

Leadership of games:
We also are in desperate need of one or more people to train as Concession Captains. Captains know the ins and outs of each concession stand, how to set up and clean up, how to handle any minor problems that arise, etc. We have relied on one parent for too long, and she needs a co-Captain!

Volunteer duties:
For all games, you will be doing some or all of the following:
(Your exact duties are flexible, since we try not to make anyone do jobs that they really don't like.)
1) Counting of beginning inventory and setting up the stand before the game.
2) Taking customer orders and cash.
3) Filling orders. (At baseball games, this could include pouring beer.)
4) Limited food preparation.
5) Counting of final inventory.
6) Cleaning up the stand.
